Adolescent Gynaecology

At Liverpool Women’s we offer a range of clinics to care and support adolescents and young adults with their gynaecological conditions.

  • General adolescent gynaecology

    You will be refereed to our General adolescent gynaecology if you have:

    • Adolescent menstrual dysfunction
    • Heavy/Painful/irregular periods)
    • Amenorrhoea (Absent periods)
    • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
    • Concerns regarding genital appearance
    • Female Genital mutilation
    • General gynaecology patients might be seen in this clinic too

    Location & clinic times

    Clinics are held in gynaecology outpatients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Crown Street site every Tuesday afternoon, 1pm-5pm.

    There is a Consultant every week and a Consultant Nurse every other week.

  • Complex adolescent gynaecology clinic

    You will be refereed to our Complex adolescent gynaecology clinic if you have:

    Disorders of sex development, including:

    • Androgen Insensitivity (Complete and Partial)
    • Swyers Syndrome
    • Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
    • Turners Syndrome

    Mullerian duct anomalies, including:

    • Imperforate hymen
    • Longitudinal vaginal septa
    • Transverse vaginal septa
    • Obstructed hemi vagina
    • Uterus didelphys
    • Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome (Absent uterus)

    Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

    Location & clinic times

    Clinics are held in gynaecology outpatients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Crown Street site every Monday Morning, 9pm-1pm.

    There is a Consultant present every week.

  • Vaginal Dilation clinic

    This clinic is a vaginal dilation programme for girls and women who are born without a vagina, or have a narrowed vagina following surgery or radiotherapy, or are having difficulties with tampons or sexual intercourse.

    Clinics are held in gynaecology outpatients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Crown Street site every Tuesday morning, 9am-1pm.

  • Transition Endocrinology/Gynaecology clinic

    This clinic is for girls who are transitioning from Children’s Services into Adult Services, who have conditions whereby they need to see both Gynaecologists and Endocrinologists (Disorders of sex development, Premature ovarian insufficiency, Turners Syndrome, PCOS).

    There is a Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecologist, a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and a Consultant Endocrinologist present.

    Location & clinic times

    Clinics are held in gynaecology outpatients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Crown Street on an ad hoc basis.

  • Galactossaemia clinic

    This clinic is for girls and women with Galactossaemia.

    There is a Consultant Gynaecologist, Consultant in Metabolic Medicine and a Metabolic Dietician present.

    Location & clinic times

    Clinics are held in gynaecology outpatients at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Crown Street site twice a year on a Tuesday afternoon, 1pm-5pm.
