Background:
I completed my Midwifery training at LJMU in 2007 and after initially working as a Midwife at a hospital in Stoke; I secured a rotational Midwifery post at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, six months later. I was appointed to my current post as Urogynaecology Link Midwife in 2018 and work on a job share basis with another Midwife, Wahiba, to provide a full time service. I also work on the Maternity base for the other part of my contracted hours in the trust. We see obstetric patients in both the antenatal and postnatal period and accept referrals for those patients who are experiencing any bladder or bowel problems along with perineal issues and obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI). A typical week for the urogynae link midwife involves 5 x clinics (1 x telephone clinic, 3 x face to face midwife led clinics and a joint perineal clinic with Miss Fowler. The rest of our time is spent dealing with referrals, ward reviews and care planning along with ad-hoc training sessions for staff when time allows. During my time in this role, I have developed a particular interest in bladder issues, having helped overhaul postnatal bladder care and the guidance for the trust in 2019. I also have a keen interest in perineal trauma and looking for ways of positively managing perineal wound breakdown, having completed a tissue viability course in the past.

I feel that my keen interest in all aspects of my role enables me to provide the highest standard of care possible to those patients who require access to our service, allowing them to feel supported, listened to and cared for.
