Volunteering at the Liverpool Women's Hospital

Here at the Liverpool Women's Hospital (LWH) we know how important it is to make our volunteers feel well supported and valued in their roles, and to ensure that all our volunteers have a positive experience.

Our volunteers help deliver services and projects throughout the organisation in a more effective way, they bring a diverse range of experience, skills and knowledge. An amazing group of people who enjoy making a difference to the lives of others.

We wouldn't be without them!!!

If you would like to join our volunteer family to make a difference to the experience of our patients, their families, and support our staff, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.

We have various volunteering opportunities that will suit all ages and abilities and welcome applications from people from all walks of life. We appreciate that some of you are considering employment in the Health Service or allied professions, and we aim to help people gain experience and insight in clinical areas working alongside support and clinical staff. Therefore every eligible volunteer who would like to become a Volunteer Responder can request a transfer to this role after completing a set number of hours on Meet and Greet and/or Antenatal Clinic (Liverpool Site only).

The majority of our volunteering opportunities are subject to medical clearance, DBS check and two references. The recruitment process usually takes between 1-3 months to complete; therefore we can only consider applications from individuals who intend to volunteer for a minimum of 6 months.

To get started, attend one of our monthly Group Informal Chat. At these group sessions we talk about volunteering opportunities at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital, and what qualities and skills you could bring to enhance our patients’ and visitors’ journey, along with what you hope to gain from the experience. • On Call Volunteer Chaplain / Visitor

    ON-CALL CHAPLAINS

The hospital Chaplaincy Service seeks to build a relationship of trust through compassionate presence and thereby offer help and support to a diversity of people.

Such support might focus on the emotional or spiritual adjustment to illness, or a search for meaning and purpose during illness.

The service also aims to help in crisis situations, including family/relationship issues as well as bereavement care.

Chaplains work alongside other health care professionals collectively and collaboratively to provide psycho-social-spiritual services for patients and families.

Chaplains possess a particular understanding of the relation between faith, illness, and the emotional and mental conflicts that arise.

A chaplain seeks to motivate and initiate meaningful use of each individual’s beliefs and attitudes in the management of their problems.

The chaplain’s role is supportive, serving as a guide to the psycho-spiritual needs of the staff and patients.
