NHS75 Celebrating 75 years of the NHS

The 5th July marks 75 years of the National Health Service (NHS)

The NHS treats over a million people a day in England, the NHS touches all of our lives. When it was founded in 1948, the NHS was the first universal health system to be available to all, free at the point of delivery. Today, nine in 10 people agree that healthcare should be free of charge, more than four in five agree that care should be available to everyone, and that the NHS makes them most proud to be British.

Our Chief Executive wished the NHS a Happy Birthday, and you can view it here

As part of the 75th birthday celebrations we invited pupils from Kingsley Community Primary School to participate in a competition to design a 75th birthday card.  The competition sparked plenty of interest with over 100 entries.

Pupils were encouraged to design a card that characterised the various professions within the NHS and the rest was left entirely to the children’s imagination. As a result each entry was original with displays of bright colours and plenty of creativity. It will be extremely difficult to judge but we will be announcing the winners on Wednesday 12th July as we will be visiting the school to say thank you, announce the winners and also give a talk to the pupils about careers in the NHS.

Jenny Hannon, Chief Finance Officer and Deputy Chief Executive said, The NHS plays a huge part in our community and it’s been great to see engagement from our younger generation. I thank the teaching staff and the parents that supported the children to participate in this celebration. We were absolutely delighted to receive over 100 cards, each of which was unique and wonderful in its own way.”

The cards will be placed on display at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

We raised a cuppa to celebrate the milestone

We introduced a special NHS75 Staff thank you Award which was an opportunity to say a ‘special thank you’ to our amazing colleagues, teams and departments to show appreciation for the exceptional work they do every day to support our patients and their families.  We received some amazing thank you messages and shared them with our colleagues.
