New permanent CT Scanner now fully operational at Liverpool Women's

Our latest exciting news is that our new permanent CT Scanner has been installed and is fully operational from this week. This new permanent CT Scanner will give patients in the community access to diagnostics much earlier than they would have had before and will also reduce transfers for LWH patients who would ordinarily have to go over to the Royal Liverpool Hospital for such tests. In addition, this will not only benefit Liverpool Women’s patients but many others across the region who are waiting for diagnostic care including patients from Liverpool University Hospitals (LUHFT), Liverpool Heart and Chest (LHCH) and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC).

The permanent CT scanner is located within Imaging, accessible via the main Outpatients Department.

You can watch a short video clip of Medical Director, Lynn Greenhalgh and Chief Operating Officer, Gary Price giving a sneak preview of the CT Scanner before it became operational. Click here to watch the video clip

Mobile CT Scanner in use until end of March 2023

The new permanent CT Scanner has started to see patients this week. However, the existing mobile CT Scanner (located outside near to the main entrance) will also remain in use until the end of March 2023. Any patients with an appointment will have the relevant CT Scanner referred to clearly on their patient appointment letters.

Other updates

Along with our new CT Scanner, over the next few weeks a permanent MRI scanner will also be installed within the Community Diagnostic Centre. As soon as this work is complete, we will let you know.

We are also excited to inform you that the completed Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) will be officially opened later in the year.

When fully complete, the CDC which will be open seven days a week, offering a range of tests to provider quicker diagnosis, reduce waiting times, and cut down on hospital visits by allowing multiple tests in one location, on the same day.

Gary Price, Chief Operating Officer said: “It is fantastic to be nearing completion of this exciting project. Having CT scans, MRI scans and other tests available on site will not only benefit our patients at Liverpool Women’s but those across the region, as well as providing support to our neighbouring NHS partner organisations. We are proud to be working in partnership with other Trusts and national healthcare partners which will produce great benefits to patients in the community, reduced waiting times, and providing quicker diagnosis. I would like to say a big thank you to all the clinical and operational staff across the Trust who have led and supported this project.”
