Midwife, Camila Benavides honoured by King Charles at Buckingham Palace

We are delighted and proud of our wonderful Midwife, Camila Benavides who was recently honoured by King Charles at Buckingham Palace, at a prestigious event for international NHS staff.

The event was a celebration for all those who have made extraordinary contributions to the NHS and their profession since joining their respective organisations. It also coincided with King Charles 75th birthday celebrations.

Camila was the first Midwife to join Liverpool Women’s via the Internationally Educated Midwifery (IEM) Programme, and has worked for the Trust for 12 months. Nominated by, Alison Murray, Deputy Head of Midwifery, Camila said she was over the moon when the invitation arrived in the post.

“When I received the invitation, I was excited but very grateful for this wonderful opportunity. It felt like a huge milestone in my career, it was a very special moment for me and my family.

“I didn’t think I’d get the chance to meet King Charles or indeed speak to him as there were 400 Nurses and Midwives at the event, however I did manage to say a few words to him. When he shook my hand, he asked where I was from and we had a little chat about Chile and how unusual it was to have healthcare professionals from Chile working in the UK. I also made a joke about sharing my name with the Queen consort.  It was a truly amazing day and I thoroughly enjoyed every second”.

Liverpool Women’s was only one of five Trusts in the North West chosen to attend the event, which is another huge testament to Camila’s achievements.
