Inpatient survey results show Liverpool Women’s is performing better than most acute and specialist Trusts

Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust has received its Gynaecology adult inpatients survey results for 2022, performing better than most other NHS acute and specialist Trusts across almost half of the themes covered in the survey.

A National Inpatients Survey is conducted each year looking at the experiences of over 63,000 NHS patients who received care in NHS hospitals during November 2022. The survey received 384 Gynaecology patient responses from Liverpool Women’s Hospital for their views on aspects of their care, such as: admission to hospital, the hospital environment, care given by doctors and nurses, how operations and procedures were explained, and levels of respect and dignity given to patients.

There are a range of questions which make up the inpatients survey, designed to mirror the patient journey through the hospital. The survey enables the Trust to compare its current performance against historical results and to benchmark against other NHS organisations.

When compared to national NHS results, Liverpool Women’s scored better than other acute and specialist NHS Trusts in 20 questions, and 5 of the 11 overall themes covered in the survey.

Patients were asked for feedback about a range of issues and Liverpool Women’s performed much better compared to other acute and specialist NHS Trusts for questions relating to: information given about operations and procedures, feeling included in conversations, privacy when being examined, availability of food, drink and dietary requirements, and the amount of notice given before leaving the hospital.

In addition, 100% of patients who responded said they had confidence and trust in doctors.

Dianne Brown, Chief Nurse at Liverpool Women's said: "We are very proud to be among the best performing NHS acute and specialist Trusts in a number of areas covered in the survey.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the Trust and reflects the hard work and dedication of staff within our Gynaecology service to provide the very best care to our patients.”

As always there are some areas where the Trust could have performed even better and following receipt of the report, these will be focussed on for further improvement as well as working hard to maintain the excellent performance overall.

Thank you to those patients who took the time to complete the survey.
