Liverpool Women’s ‘Dedicated to Excellence’ virtual Awards Ceremony celebrates the stars of 2020/21

Staff working at the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust celebrated the outstanding dedication, hard work and achievements that have been made following one of the most challenging years in the NHS on Monday 20th December 2021. 

The event last year was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but the Trust wanted to ensure that individuals and departments were commended for going above and beyond in incredibly challenging circumstances.  Due to the pandemic the ceremony was held virtually and presented by the Executive Team. 

Kathryn Thomson, Chief Executive, said: “Congratulations to all the winners of the Dedicated to Excellence Awards 2020/21.   I know it was incredibly tough for the panel of judges to pick as we had so many fantastic entries and well done to everyone as this shows how much brilliant work is happening at the Liverpool Women’s".

Outstanding Contribution: Clinical Support Services - Linda Hill; Dietitian

Linda Hill has worked as a dietitian at Liverpool Women’s Hospital for almost two decades. During this time she has strived to improve the nutritional status and understanding of patients, staff and visitors alike.

Outstanding Contribution; Corporate Services - Richard Strover, Head of Information & Performance

Regularly goes above and beyond in his commitment to the Trust and services; has regularly delivered vital information at short notice to support urgent requirements.

Outstanding Contribution; Family Health - Val Irving, Matron Neonatal

Val has achieved so much in the 40 years she has served Liverpool Women's, she has changed building, changed practice, developed staff. She has nursed with care and compassion and led with strength, knowledge and courage.

Outstanding Contribution; Gynaecology - Dawn Valentine Gray, Lead Nurse, Macmillan cancer team

Dawn is very passionate and driven and over 12 months has grown in her leadership role. Her drive and determination has enabled LWH to work closely with the cancer alliance and implement a care navigator role.

Divisional Rising Star; Clinical Support Services - Caroline Brannan, Pharmacy

Caroline is a Rising Star in the Pharmacy department since starting her role in 2018 with no previous experience in the NHS. She has excelled and shown great dedication in her assistant technical officer (ATO) role and is a valued member of the Pharmacy workforce.

Divisional Rising Star; Corporate Services - Chris Gough, Finance

A valued member of the Finance team regularly goes above and beyond to support his colleagues and the wider Trust.

Divisional Rising Star; Family Health - Jessica Harron NICU Nurse

Jess has helped train new staff and students, and supported current nurses in many stressful situations and is confident, knowledgeable, supportive and exceptionally caring to everyone on our unit! Family’s and parents too! She is a role model.

Divisional Rising Star; Gynaecology - Lewis Nancarrow – Registrar Hewitt Centre

Since Lewis joined the Hewitt Centre in 2017 he has made a significant positive impact to clinical processes, patient treatment and treatment outcomes. Constantly strives for improvement and is always ready to support and advice the nursing and scientific staff.

Learner of the Year - Eva Sinnott, Gynaecology

Eva learned to provide percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS), which helped improve the service greatly.

Mentor of the Year - Denise Anderson, Gynaecology

Denise has been the best supportive mentor, her support and knowledge is outstanding, she has great teaching methods and offer continuous support.

Dedicated to Patient Safety - NEST Team, Family Health

The team have improved the care and experience of non-English speaking women and their families. The team are dedicated, take ownership and commitment and care.

Fundraiser of the Year - Alex Cleator & Becci Weir – Christmas Concert

Both worked hard to create an enjoyable concert for everyone together raised £5,657.18 for our Big Tiny Steps Appeal.

Dedicated to Clinical Audit - Dr Richard Hutchinson, Family Health

Conducted an audit for the reporting of radiology images by the on-call neonatal consultant.

Dedicated to Patients and their Families - Dr Natalie Canham, Genetics. Lose the snail (mail)

Fantastic work was done to secure emailing of clinic letters to patients.

Team Working and Partnerships - NICU New Build, Family Health

For the amazing new development of the neonatal unit

Patient Choice - Honeysuckle Team, Family Health

Numerous nominations received relating to the exceptional care received.

Dedicated to Innovation and Research - 3D The Vision and Wireless Future of Surgery, Clinical Support Services

The introduction of 3D laparoscopic camera systems has enabled surgeons to have optimal spatial orientation as well as improved hand- eye coordination, resulting in efficiency and an enhanced level of care for our patients.

Employee of the Year – Kevin Dowd

Kevin received a staggering 37 nominations from his colleagues saying that he always goes above and beyond for our women, patients and colleagues. 

Team of the Year – Midwife at Home Team

This team went to extraordinary efforts in arranging care for the influx of extra women from 121 midwives who were planning a homebirth providing a smooth transition for these women.

Volunteer of the Year - Jacqui Mathews

Jackie's commitment to LWH extends across four decades and two sites, her kindness, compassion and commitment to the Trust is second to none.

Chief Executive Outstanding Contribution Award

Each year Chief Executive Kathryn Thomson takes the opportunity to give a special thanks to teams and individuals with the ‘Chief Executive Outstanding Contribution Award’. This year’s special award went to:

Mandy McDonough, Safeguarding Associate Director of Nursing & Midwifery & the Safeguarding Team
