Chief Executive announces retirement

Kathryn Thomson, Liverpool Women's Chief Executive, has announced that she will be retiring later this year after almost 40 years in the NHS.

Kathy has been Chief Executive at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust since 2008 and by the end of the year she will have completed 15 years’ service at the Trust.

During that time, she has made a huge impact on the organisation, and since 2015 has driven forward plans to secure the future of the Trust’s services through the Future Generations Strategy which has now been established as a priority programme of work for NHS Cheshire & Merseyside to take forward.

Kathy has helped to shape and develop the Trust’s vision, values, and strategies over the years with a commitment to delivering the highest quality care to women, babies and other people we care for.

During Kathy’s time at Liverpool Women’s, approximately 120,000 babies have been born,130,000 gynaecological procedures have been undertaken, and 13,000 babies have been cared for by our neonatal team.

Regarding her decision, Kathy said: “This has been one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make but one that I have been thinking about for some time. I have had a rewarding career spanning almost 40 years in the NHS and I have been honoured to lead the wonderful Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust for the past 15 years. It has been a privilege to lead such dedicated clinicians and staff over so many years.”

Kathy will retire later in the year. Further details including specific timescales for her departure will be announced soon.
