Vote Liverpool Women's Charity in Tesco Bags of Help Initiative

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

The public will now vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards.

Liverpool Women's Charity is proud to announce that it has been chosen as one of the three recipients to receive one of these awards in order to provide its community access to a Play Area and a Memorial Garden.

If Liverpool Women's Charity are successful with the £8,000 grant this will help to provide a memorial garden and play area for people to relax, reflect in and a place where children would also be able to feel comfortable. It will be a tranquil and beautiful area open to all with planters, seating and a water feature.

This will allow Liverpool Women's to:-

1. Carry out all the preliminary excavations, the access ramp to the garden and surfacing of the area.
2. The seating area and associated planters one of which will be a three tier staircase raised planter, symbolising the steps to heaven/afterlife, and the other being a raised planter at the rear of the seating giving some privacy.
3. Plants for all the raised beds and the feature planting bed, many of which will include sensory plants with a wide variety of scents and textures as well as the climbing plants for the structures.
4. A solar powered bubble wall unit. This gives the calming effect of a water feature and is a large structure that will be the focal point of the area.
5. The preliminary work and provision of the play surface.
6. Provision of a Shapes Ball Fall Wall activity panel for the play area

If Liverpool Women's Charity are successful with the £10,000 grant this will provide all of the above, but also:

1. Two timber pergolas with additional shelf units attached along with additional climbing plants to help give the area more height and more seclusion for those who may be going through difficult times.
2. A gravel garden with feature bed
3. A Story Telling Chair for the play area

If Liverpool Women's Charity are successful with the £12,000 grant this will provide all of the above, but also:

1. Ten large tree planters with trees to complete the scheme that has been developed and make it even more welcoming
2. Provision of a wobbly mirror for the play area

"Obviously we would love to secure the £12,000 grant to provide the best possible Memorial Garden and Play Area, so please encourage all your family and friends to visit Tesco and vote for Liverpool Women's Charity!!" Lisa Masters, Charitable Fundraisier
