Autism Reality Experience Bus visits Liverpool Women’s Hospital and what an eye-opening experience it was

We were thrilled to welcome the Autism Reality Experience Bus at Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Friday, 11 April 2025.

This innovative and interactive experience gave insight into what it’s like to live with a sensory condition such as autism, which can significantly impact how people process information and navigate daily life. By taking part in the experience which lasted 15 minutes was a great way for fostering greater empathy and understanding towards all individuals living with autism, giving our colleagues a deeper understanding of the challenges faced.

We had a great turnout as 50 colleagues attended the experience and those that supplied feedback gave 5/5 for the experience and said it increased their understanding of what it’s like to live with autism.

Our colleagues fed back their views, here are a few of the comments.

  • Brilliant insight and experience.
  • Great experience and helped me understand how it affects neurodiverse people.
  • This is extremely beneficial as a manager and a parent to understand this condition and the difficulties faced.
  • Enhanced empathy and patience for those experiencing sensory impairments.
  • An eye-opening experience but somewhat sad to know that people with autism deal with this daily.
  • I would recommend this to everyone as it is good that people will have an awareness of what it is like to live with autism.

A huge thank you to our Disability and Wellbeing Network (DAWN) colleagues and Diane Martin, our Culture and Inclusion Lead for organising the event, as it was very well received.
