Liverpool Dad honours Son's Memory by Running London Marathon with Angel Babies' Names on Vest.

Neil Ryder, a proud supporter of Liverpool Women’s Hospital’s Neonatal Unit and father to the late Lucas Ryder, is set to participate in the iconic London Marathon this Sunday, April 21st, 2024. Neil's journey through grief has led him to embark on a heartfelt mission, running in memory of his beloved son Lucas, who tragically passed away in 2015 after a 19-day battle in the neonatal unit.

In a touching display of solidarity, Neil has extended an invitation to other grieving parents, offering to include their baby's name on his running vest. This gesture has resonated deeply with the community, as Neil is now running for Lucas and 32 other angel babies who left their mark on their families' lives.

Neil's determination to raise awareness and support for neonatal care has seen him commit to a series of endurance challenges, including the London Marathon and the upcoming IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton on June 30th, 2024, encompassing a gruelling 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13.1-mile run.

To date, Neil has raised nearly £2000 for the Liverpool Women's Hospital Charity, a testament to his dedication and the community's rallying behind this important cause.

Neil's story shows the power of resilience and the unbreakable bonds of parenthood.

Orlagh McGrattan, Fundraiser at Liverpool Women’s said, "We believe Neil's journey is a remarkable story that deserves to be shared. Securing a spot in the London Marathon is an incredible feat in itself, and Neil's mission to honour his son and other angel babies adds profound meaning to this event."
