Busy & Interesting few months at Liverpool Women's

It has been an extremely busy few months at Liverpool Women's. On the 30th September we had an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission. I am expecting a report to be released by the Commission towards the end of the month. A huge thank you to our very new Director of Nursing and Midwifery Dianne Brown who has shown true leadership and determination over a difficult number of months. I would also like to express my gratitude to the other executive directors who have supported Dianne. Once again our Clinical Director for Maternity services has been a star and a very big thank you to Clare Fitzpatrick our Acting Head of Midwifery.

On Thursday night our maternity services were yet again the focus of a programme on BBC3 – Don't Drop the Baby. Well done to Rachel the midwife featured in the show and congratulations to Terry and Emma, who had a beautiful baby girl.

Industrial action is being taken by healthcare staff across the NHS next week. I would like to reassure all patients and families that they will continue to receive safe care during the 4 hour strike action.  Detailed arrangements have been put in place with the support of our staff and their trade unions to ensure that patients will be cared for safely.

I am sure that many people will have heard in the media about the national 100,000 genome project, which it is hoped will significantly transform care for patients in the future. I am delighted that our bid  has been progressed to stage 2. All health care organisations and the University of Liverpool are really excited about this project and we are working collaboratively to ensure that we are at the forefront of this really exciting project.

Tomorrow is International Day of the Girl and we have planned our Annual Members Meeting to coincide with this celebration. We will be hosting over 140 girl guides throughout the day, who will each spend the day working towards achieving the specially designed 'Liverpool Women's Badge'. We have also been running a competition for the girls to redesign our Superlambanana, the winning design will be unveiled at tomorrow's event.

Have a great weekend.
