Hewitt Fertility Centre shortlisted for prestigious HSJ award

Part of Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust and with clinics in Liverpool and Knutsford,  The Hewitt Fertility Centre has been shortlisted in the category for service innovation at the 2013 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards, because of the outstanding improvements to pregnancy success rates it has achieved during the past 12 months.

The Hewitt Fertility Centre has outstanding success rates for all ages, boasting a staggering 57.3% success rate for clinical pregnancies in under 35 year-olds; more than double the success rates of some of their nearest competitors. The centre’s implantation rates per embryo transferred are now as good as the very best internationally.

Professor Charles Kinglsand, Clinical Director at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, said:
"The service is now achieving success rates that are as good as the very best internationally.  Our aim is to build on this success by carrying out research with Edge Hill University and with international partners to improve pregnancy rates still further.”

"Our success rates are due to a number of factors; however a lot can be attributed to the clinic becoming the first in Europe to provide time lapse photography, a technique that monitors embryo development, as standard to all NHS and private patients. These revolutionary Eeva™ and EmbryoScope™ systems monitor the development of the embryo at every step of the process, helping our embryologists to select the embryos that are most likely to result in pregnancies. We also provide EmbryoGlue™ as standard for all patients because research has shown that this helps embryos implant."Dr Stephen Troup, Scientific Director at The Hewitt Fertility Centre, said:

"Our service is the only one in Europe to provide time lapse to all patients.  These systems help our scientists to identify the best embryos.  We are the only service in the World to have both of the leading time lapse systems EmbryoScope and Eeva."

Dr Rafet Gazvani, Manager of the The Hewitt Fertility Centre, Knutsford, said:

"The aim of The Hewitt Fertility Centre, Knutsford is to generate, at the very least, 300 cycles of activities in 2013/14. Through our dedicated staff and ground-breaking technology. We’re currently well on course to achieve that figure"

Shortlisted organisations, chosen from a record number of entries, will now complete presentations and interviews to category specific judging panels made up of 85 senior and influential figures from the health sector.
