Happy New Year to everyone

Early on Christmas morning I came into the hospital to see the first babies born on Christmas Day and to say Happy Christmas to our staff who had worked over the Christmas Eve night and those staff coming into work on Christmas morning.  It was nice to see so many of our staff wearing Christmas hats to cheer up our patients.  On New Year's Day our Chairman visited to see the first babies of 2014 and to say hello to our staff who worked over the New Year when many of us were spending time with family and friends.

Our Board of Directors meeting was held last Friday and we took the opportunity to thank Lynn Greenhalgh Clinical Lead for Genetics, Memmet Gazvani Consultant Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Barbara Freeman Complaints Officer and Jackie Matthews League of Friends.

On Tuesday of this week Sky News reported live from Liverpool Women's. They arrived on site at 3.30am and broadcast live throughout the day. Our staff and patients took part in live broadcasts and showcased so well what we do for patient's everyday. The coverage was amazing and I was so proud to be the CEO of such a fantastic place.

Filming also commenced this week with our Hewitt Fertility Centre on a new Fertility prime time documentary that will be aired later on this year.

On Thursday myself and my executive team took some time out to reflect on our strategy for the organisation for the future. Some interesting and exciting opportunities for us that we will flesh out with our Board of Directors and the wider organisation over the coming months.

2014 will no doubt bring many opportunities and indeed many challenges to the NHS in general and to us locally at Liverpool Women's.  We have many important decisions to make this year and the right answer is not always immediately obvious.  Reflecting on these critical decisions reminded me of Theodore Roosevelt quote 'in any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.  The worst thing you can do is nothing'.  Oh well fingers crossed we will make the right decisions; life would be boring if everything was a certainty!!!
