Chief Executive

Get it right for every patient

It really is a privilege to be the Chief Executive of such an amazing Hospital. Our focus is on working towards ensuring we get it right for every patient, every time.  Led by Gail Naylor, Director of Nursing and Midwifery, filming has commenced this week on a DVD which will highlight why it is so important that we get it right for our patients and their families.  The short film uses real patients and staff from Liverpool Women’s and we look forward to launching the DVD at our Nursing and Midwifery Celebration event in January 2014.  I look forward to being able to share this with you in the New Year.

On Monday I had a 3rd year Student Midwife shadowing me for the day.  I really enjoy spending time with people who are starting out on their career paths.  As well as the usual round of meetings and phone calls, Kirsty joined me in some visits to our Gynaecology Operating Theatres to talk to staff there and a visit to our Maternity Assessment Unit and Delivery Suite.

On the 18th October we held our Leadership Graduation Ceremony.  It was fantastic to see the commitment of so many of our staff who have been through the programmes, now more than ever it is imperative that we have top class leaders at all levels in the NHS.

To help drive our efficiency and to help reduce costs, from the beginning of December we will be operating a SMS text reminder service for out-patient appointments.  We are hoping this will help to reduce the number of patients who miss their appointment and will free up appointments for other patients.

We have also been recognised as the UK and Ireland IT Department of the year by software firm Kaseya for use of their solution to ensure we achieve the highest international levels of assurance around the protection and management of our IT. Congratulations to all of the staff in the department who helped achieve this award.

A massive thank you to Nick Simons and Coast1079 FM for the marathon 24 hour broadcast on Coast1079 FM on 6th and 7th November 2013.  All proceeds will be donated to Liverpool Women’s in memory of Nick’s beautiful daughter Scarlet.  A charity night has been organised on 16th November 2013 at Holy Name Social Club, Moss Pits Lane, Fazakerley. Please tune into Coast1079 for more details.
