Neonatal Care
Liverpool Women’s is a recognised centre of excellence for neonatal care - providing care for babies born prematurely, with low weight or who have a medical condition that requires specialist treatment.
Specialist care
Liverpool Women’s Neonatal Unit is part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Neonatal Network and takes care of more than 1,000 babies and their families every year from the Isle of Man, North Wales and other areas of the country. We ensure the whole family is included in the care and decision making of their baby in order to provide family centred care of the highest quality and in accordance with our philosophy of care.
The Neonatal Unit is located within Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site where we house 54 cots; 16 for the intensive care of the newborn, 18 for high dependency, 14 for low dependency care and 6 for transitional care.
Babylink
In recent years, we have introduced Babylink a website created especially for the parents of babies on the Neonatal Unit. The pages contain information about the Neonatal Unit and about the care and treatment babies receive. It is hoped that by using Babylink, parents can gain a better understanding of their baby's condition and feel more involved in the decisions made around their baby’s treatment. The Baby Diary is a key feature of Babylink and contains information for parents prepared by nursing staff. Accessible only by a password, these diary entries help parents and family to follow the progress of their babies.
Neonatal Network
Liverpool Women’s Neonatal Unit is part of the Neonatal Network - a collaborative partnership between service providers and Primary Care Trust commissioners who jointly review, plan, commission and oversee the clinical development of the service. The network will drive to reduce inequalities for its resident population. As well as Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, members of the network include hospital trusts at Arrowe Park, Chester, Warrington, Whiston, Ormskirk, Leighton and Macclesfield.
