Specialist antenatal clinics

Women with straightforward, low-risk, pregnancies may find all the care they need within their local community but if you face a more complicated route you may need some extra support. That’s why here at Liverpool Women’s we offer a comprehensive range of specialist antenatal services and clinics. Our team is multidisciplinary and combines leading consultants, specialist midwives and nurses and other clinicians, such as ultrasonographers. From your first visit to any follow-up appointments right up until the time you leave our care, your welfare is extremely important to us.

  • Renal Clinic

    This is a monthly clinic for women who have had kidney transplants in the past or have known kidney problems. After review by an obstetrician and specialist renal consultant, a plan of treatment and care will be agreed.

    Held in the antenatal clinic at Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Wednesday between 9.30am and 11:30am.

  • Hypertension Clinic

    If you suffer with high blood pressure, either before or since becoming pregnant, you will attend this weekly clinic. A plan of treatment and care will be devised by an obstetrician and a medical consultant.

    Held in the antenatal clinic at the Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Wednesday between 9am and 12pm.

  • Maternal Cardiac Clinic

    This is a monthly clinic for women with heart transplants or known heart problems for review and plan of treatment and care by an obstetrician and consultant cardiologist.

    Held in the antenatal clinic at Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Tuesday between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

  • Mental Health Clinic

    This is a weekly clinic for women with a history of significant mental health problems. The service is staffed by a consultant obstetrician and specialist midwife, a consultant psychiatrist and two psychiatric nurses.

    Held in the Antenatal Clinic at Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Tuesday between 9am and 12pm.

  • Haematology/ Thrombophilia Clinic

    This clinic is held every month for women with a history of blood or blood clotting problems and a high risk history of such problems in their family. After review by an obstetrician and a consultant haematologist a plan of treatment and care will be agreed.

    Held in the Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Thursday between 1.30pm and 4pm.

    Held in the Antenatal Clinic at the Aintree Centre for Women’s Health once a month on a Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm.

     

  • Bariatric Clinic

    This is a weekly clinic for women with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more. The BMI is calculated by height and weight and a figure of 40 is deemed to be obese and may pose a substantial risk in pregnancy. The clinic is staffed by a consultant obstetrician and a midwife. Each lady will be assessed and assigned a plan of care.

  • Neurology Clinic

    Women with neurological problems, such as epilepsy, attend this monthly clinic for review and a plan of treatment and care by an obstetrician and consultant neurologist.

    Held in the Antenatal Clinic at Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Monday between 1.15pm and 3.30pm.

  • Pregnancy Support Clinic

    This is a weekly support clinic for ladies who are more than 10 weeks pregnant and have a history of recurrent miscarriage, usually three consecutive miscarriages. This is a follow on antenatal clinic from the miscarriage team based in the gynaecology department and is staffed by a consultant and a specialist nurse.

  • Preterm Labour Clinic

    This is a weekly clinic, staffed by a consultant obstetrician, for women who have a history of delivering their babies prematurely.

    Held in the Fetal Medicine Unit at Liverpool Women’s Crown Street site on a Thursday between 1.30pm and 4.15pm.

  • Link Clinic

    This award-winning weekly service was developed for women whose first language is not English, and for asylum seekers and refugees and women with a history of female genital mutilation. Staffed by a specialist midwife/coordinator, both community and Children’s Centre midwives, and health link workers, the service offers a range of support aids including education and parenting classes, information leaflets and CDs. The clinic benefits from interpreters as well as a telephone interpreting service.

  • Young Women's Clinic

    This award-winning weekly clinic was developed for young mothers-to-be up to the age of 17, though older teenagers can be referred if necessary. As well as a pathway of care created to suit each individual, other support networks include parent education and parenting classes each week before clinic and a weekly sexual health clinic. Staffed by a specialist midwife and a consultant for obstetric review, this clinic has also been recognised for its dedication and innovation.

  • Medical/ Endocrine/ Diabetes Clinic

    This weekly clinic is for women with an existing endocrine problem, diabetes, asthma, or a newly developed medical problem since becoming pregnant. There is a comprehensive diabetes service and an anaesthetic review service. The clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising two consultant obstetricians and a specialist midwife/coordinator, a consultant endocrinologist (diabetes specialist), two diabetes specialist nurses and a specialist dietician - all working together to ensure each woman receives an individual plan of treatment and care.
